Solidification Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of B1-type TiC in Fe-Ti-C Ternary Alloys

The microstructure of the B1-type TiC formed during solidification and its mechanical properties were investigated using arc-melted Fe-Ti-C ternary alloys. at relatively high temperatures in liquid as primary phase exhibited a dendritic shape. With decreasing temperature and/or Ti C content liquid, morphology changed to cubic shape with {001}TiC habit plane, plate {011}TiC needle <001>TiC preferential growth direction. was characterized by anisotropy surface energy rate. plane result minimum {001}TiC. However, direction should be due slowest rate <011>TiC fastest <001>TiC, respectively. At room temperature, alloy fractured elastic deformation region because no plastic deformation. On other hand, 800ºC, it suggested that has deformability also plastically deformed.
